Frational CO2 Skin Resurfacing
What is Fractional CO2 Resurfacing?
Laser skin resurfacing technology has evolved to Fractional CO2 Resurfacing which will provide results for patients with acne scarring, melasma, sun damage, pigmented lesions, and age spots, without the discomfort and downtime previously involved wtih laser peels and resurfacing. What makes Fractional CO2 resurfacing special is its ability to bypass healthy, living skin cells and touch only those cells that require re-growth. This level of precision makes the procedure very effective. Instead of the body facing a large portion of skin to re-grow, it can focus on smaller areas.
Reasons for Considering Fractional C02 Resurfacing:
-Reduce or remove facial wrinkles, creases, and lines.
-Improve sun-damaged skin.
-Correct pigmentation problems and spots.
-Effectively treat scars from acne, birthmarks, moles, and tattoos.
-Tighten skin that has lost elasticity due to aging.
General Procedure
The fractional technology delivers the CO2 laser energy in a pixel-like fashion where microscopic holes 0.3mm are punched into the skin right next to each other via computer-generated patterns. This fractionated CO2 laser technology delivers microscopic columns of CO2 laser energy across the skin barrier, penetrating 20% of the skin surface area. The other 80% of non-ablated skin surface areas facilitate faster healing.
The Fractional CO2 Laser is safe for virtually all skin surface areas, including face, neck, chest, back, arms and hands. There should be minimal discomfort as only topical anesthetics are needed for most individuals.
Recovery Process
Downtime is relatively short, typically 5-7 days. Getting plenty of rest and having only limited movement will speed up the healing process and recovery time. Cosmetic appearance will continue to improve with the stimulation of collagen production which will last up to 6 months after the procedure.
Immediately afterwards your skin will be red, similar to a sunburn. You may also experience some peeling after about 3-4 days. In most cases, your skin will return to its normal appearance in 5-7 days after the laser procedure is completed. A cold compress will be applied. During your recovery period we suggest you apply a hydrating lotion to keep the skin moist and promote healing. In most cases, excellent results can be achieved in a single treatment. However, those with severe wrinkling and/or deep acne scars may benefit from a series spaced about 1 month apart.
